In order to evaluate the mercury contamination in dental clinic of Chonnam University Hospital, investigation of mercury-handing and measurement of mercury in air of 3 dental clinics were performed and the results were as follows
1. The highest mercury concentration among 6 air sampling points was that of respiration area by the side of unit chair during operation of amalgam -restoration(0.0134mg/m3) and the second was that of amalgam-preparing area(0.0030 mg /m3 ).
2. Although all the concentrations of mercury in sampling points were below the permissible limit, those of 5 points were higher than that of general office and therefore it would be necessary to use water-spray and high volume evacuator during operating amalgam-restoration of patient, set up a local exhaust ventilaton system at amalgam-preparation place and follow up the dentistry personnels with biological monitoring.
